Business and Academic institutions are gearing towards a ‘post PC’ era, whereby the traditional IT environment will no longer be the platform of choice to work/study efficiently.

Budgets are still tight, yet ICT has to continually flex to keep pace with environmental policy and technology advances. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) need to support students’ growing demand to access online data and resources from any location, at any time and from any device.

Students have higher expectations from ICT as consumerism takes hold. With a surge of different devices and apps available, the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) phenomenon extends to the campus environment.

There is a notable shift in power from HEIs to students and parents as they seek better value from their choice of educational establishment. This means that attracting and retaining students is vital, so offering and measuring the overall student experience is a high priority.

‘Big Data’ is also an issue; HEIs can easily amass terabytes - even petabytes - of unstructured information, making it almost impossible for IT professionals to get a hold of storage capacity and networking requirements. And all the while, HEIs need to contribute towards the stringent Carbon reduction targets set by the HEFCE. ….

So can you really achieve it all?
